About Cardiac CT

A cardiac CT scan in a non-invasive procedure that uses x-rays to create a detailed picture of your heart and its blood vessels.


Prior to the examination it is important that you adhere to the following: No caffeine for 24 hours prior to the scan including tea, coffee, Coca-Cola, chocolate, decaffeinated coffee and herbal tea. No stimulants for 24 hours prior to the scan, this includes Viagra No smoking or exercise on the morning of your appointment. Fast for 2 hours (you may still drink water to stay hydrated) Continue taking all medications as normal unless you are diabetic on Metformin/ Diaformin which must not be taken on the day of the scan or for 48 hours afterwards. The CT tech will give you instructions post scan and tell you when you can recommence your medication.

Please note that due to the complicated nature of this procedure and the large variations in peoples heart rate you may be in the departement for a period of up to 2-4hours.
