About Bone Densitometry
Bone Density Scans also known as DEXA Scans are used to assess the density of our bones and determine the degree, if any, of early stages of Osteoporosis. Bone Density Scans are performed using a computer system that evaluates the bodies bone density and converted to a numerical value. The numerical values are then plotted on a graph compared to the average population for your age and gender, and the results correlated by one of our radiologists.
There is no preparation for your Bone Density Scan. It is however recommended that you wear loose comfortable clothing with no metal and remove all jewellery, as this may prevent you from having to get changed. Otherwise you will be supplied with a patient gown and robe.
