About MRI

3 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses a very powerful magnetic field, radio waves and a computer to produce detailed images of almost all body parts. The images are acquired then viewed on a computer screen and can be printed out if required. MRI does not use radiation to generate images however the powerful magnet is not without its risks. It is important that everyone entering the MRI room is screened by one of our experienced staff. MRIs provide very detailed images and can provide a 3D representation of the body part being examined.

Preparation

Before your MRI scan you will be able to eat, drink and take all medications as normal. The only exception to this is if you are having an abdominal scan where you may be required to fast. You will be advised of this at the time of your booking. It is best to wear comfortable clothes and if possible clothing without metal, this way you may not be required to get changed. Otherwise, we supply patient gowns and robes.
